About the event

Join the Holyoke Pride Committee for a special screening of the documentary 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture. The film explores how the word “homosexual” first appeared in the 1946 Revised Standard Version of the Bible and how that translation shaped decades of misunderstanding and harm toward LGBTQIA+ people. Through the work of researchers, historians, and faith leaders, the film examines the origins of this translation and its lasting cultural impact.

Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with the film’s composer Mary Lambert, a singer-songwriter, poet, and LGBTQIA+ activist who has spoken openly about faith, trauma, and healing. The conversation will offer space for reflection, dialogue, and community connection.

This event is presented by the Holyoke Pride Committee as part of our ongoing work to foster welcoming, inclusive, and equitable spaces for LGBTQIA+ people and allies in Holyoke.

We gratefully acknowledge the support…
